Columbus

Columbus, located in the mid-west part of Georgia, was first inhabited by Creek Indians. Many people began to become interested in the region because it was located right on the Chattahoochee River and because it made for a perfect spot to grow cotton. The Chattahoochee power was quickly harnessed and Columbus became one of the largest mill towns in Georgia. In 1918, Fort Benning was created. However, by the 1960's it was not so much a mil and military town as it was a economic and cultural city. Today, the city is filled with life and has been beautifully revitalized so everyone can enjoy it.
