Hiawassee
Hiawassee was first inhabited by Cherokee Indians.  The first people to settle in Hiawassee were certainly pioneers because they had to face the harsh mountain life.  Later in 1941, Lake Chatuge was built after the Tennessee Valley Authority acquired 7,000 acres of Towns County land. In 1950, the Georgia Mountain Fair began and today it attracts over 200,000 tourists.  Today, the Chattahoochee National Forest occupies part of Hiawassee and Hiawassee is now a major tourist area because of its beautiful scenery and recreational benefits. Also, you can see the stunning Lake Chatuge or go on a hike on the beautiful Blue Mountains.
