Roswell
Roswell , located twenty miles north of Atlanta, was first inhabited by Cherokee Indians.  Then, in 1828, after the discovery of gold, the Indian's lands were taken away and given to white settlers.  Also that year, Roswell King, on a trip to investigate business possibilities for the Bank of Darien, visited the area and saw the economic possibilities of harnessing the waterpower at the confluence of the Chattahoochee River and Vickery Creek.  In the mid 1930's he came back with his sons and built a textile mill.  By 1860, the mill was the largest cotton mill in north Georgia.  In July 1864, General Sherman's troops arrived in Roswell to find a way to cross the Chattahoochee River, destroying the mill in the process.  In 1882, a second mill was built to replace the one that was destroyed.  Today, Roswell attacks many tourists to the small town who want to see homes from the antebellum period, Bulloch Hall, and much, much more.
